results :)

Well, its been a week, and my eggs have turned out quite normal, like not BLEURGHH like some other pracs ive heard off, so thats a good start. however, my ice ocffee itself went a tad retarded cuz its milk, and it kinda went bad. it was, disgusting actually LOL and my red bull one was the most reactive one. After like a day and a half, the egg shell started to have things growing on it.. and as the week proceeded, more of this weird stuff grew on the shell. it was REALLYYYYYYYY gross. :S anyway, RESULTS - water: no change to the eggs. had 100g of egg shells, and after one week, twas still 100g left. lemonade: white and black dots starting to develop, showing it is starting to rot. had 100g at the start, and after a week, had 80 grams of egg shell remaining. coke: all of shell started to turn black because of food colouring, suggesting enamel is changing colour, in the starting process of rotting tooth. Various parts of the shell were also starting to grow some dots. it initially had 100g of eggshell, and at the end of the week, had 76g left. ice coffee: there was not much physical change to the egg shells that were placed in ice coffee, but the amount of eggshell had declined from 100g to 82g. The ice ocffee container smelt the most at the end of the week because it is a milk, and if left unrefrigerated for too long, it goes sour and leaves a horrible odour. red bull: the colour of the egg shell was fading, suggesting a lot of enamel had been lost already. there was some thing growing aorund the egg. started out weighing 100g, but was left with 70g of eggshell.

PRAC

I HAVE FINALLY STARTED MY PRAC. SO HAPPY. well, i have five round takeaway containers. each hold 250mL of liqiud, being sprite, coke, red bull, dare ice coffee(cappachino) and water. Sprite has 10.13g of sugar per 100mL, coke has 10.6g sugar per 100mL, ice coffee has 9.32g sugar per 100mL, red bull has 11g sugar per 100mL and water has no sugar. Teeth and eggshells both contain calcium carbonate and the same proteins. Apparently so do all bones, coral skeletons and shells. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090107001134AA2RNnG

hmm, an introduction to my prac..?

AIM: to determine which beverage has the most erosive effect on dental enamel. HYPOTHESIS: the drink with the most amount of sugar will erode the enamel most. INTRODUCTION: A high percentage of people consume soft drinks have contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, flavourings, and various additives. The popularity of sport drinks is growing and my prac is to study the enamel dissolution in these and a variety of other beverages. Enamel, which eggs will replace, will be immersed in the selected beverages for a total of 7 days. During and before these seven days, the egss will be weighed, to see how much 'enamel' has been eroded. METHOD: 1. Collect equipment, which include 5 eggs, 5 containers that fit eggs, coke, lemonade, ice coffee, water and red bull. 2. Pour drink into each container, marking each with the drink it has. 3. Weigh the egg to get inital mass. 4. Place one egg in each container. 5. Take out once every 24 hours, at the same time every day. 6. Record any changes in shape, size or weight. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for 7 days. 8. Record overall results in table. hmm, miss. is this good enough this time..? and i have been doing research on how eggs resemble tooth enamel. but i closed the window, but ill post the links nxt post.. :) toodles for now, my bed awaits me.. ;) GOODNIGHT.

Blog 1 Submission :S

well, howdy dowdy. itss been ages sice i last wrote again hasnt it? hopefully this will get me a an 'active blogger' :D There is one particular experiemtn i wanna do, and this is the soft drink on teeth enamel one, which by the way, eggs can replace as teeth as i will not find enough tooth for this experiment. The independant variable would be how much soft drink the egg is tested in, how long the egg is placed in the soft drink, the type of soft drink used and the current condition of the egg. The dependant variable however, will be how much the egg will rot. YAYERS. ms zhang, ive pretty much done wha tyou asked for yea? :D :D
